Research. Insight. Impact. | Aptus Business Crime Research Centre

The Academy and Events programme from the Aptus Business Crime Research Centre delivers thought leadership, specialist training, and high-impact discussions on the evolving landscape of business crime. Through workshops, masterclasses, and conferences, we bring together practitioners, policymakers, and researchers to share insights, challenge assumptions, and strengthen organisational resilience.
Our training, workshops, and conferences equip professionals with the knowledge, tools, and networks needed to navigate complex threats and emerging challenges.

Blending academic rigour with real-world relevance, this two-day workshop will apply key concepts, theory and practice from the disciplines of criminology and psychology and apply them to the retail sector in an applicable way for those who are tasked with identifying and responding to retail crime in bricks and mortar stores e.g. those working in security, loss prevention, asset prevention, violence reduction
etc.

The workshop focuses on the malicious components of shrinkage i.e. internal and external theft and fraud. It seeks to challenge perceptions, provide valuable insights and equip attendees with practical frameworks for tackling the evolving threat landscape facing retailers today. Drawing on established and cutting-edge criminological theory, new and emerging risks and vulnerabilities are situated in the complex interplay of organised crime networks, internal threats, consumer culture, changing fulfilment models, and technological innovation.
